The roots of Imperial Classical Ballet stem from the early days of the ISTD and the first written syllabus from 1913, which was based on the teaching of the French School and the Paris Opera. The syllabus has now evolved to promote the English classical styles and address the changing need of Ballet dancers today.

Ballet is seen as the foundation of dance and provides children with many benefits. With its grace and fluidity, ballet encourages posture, poise, balance, stregnth, expression, artistry and imagination. Most importantly, it provides strong technique for the dancer.

Inspire offers a wide variety of classes to suit every age, interest and ability. Please see the options below to find more about the classes we offer.

ISTD tap has evolved as an American dance form, popularised throughout the world, with debate about its origins coming from African, Irish and/or clog dancing. The dancer uses their feet to strike the floor, beating out different rhythms, with dancers wearing  tap shoes which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to give the distinctive sound.

Tap classes teach rhythm, musicality, creativity, and most of all are a lot of fun!

Modern Theatre dance is a rhythmic dance style which originated in America before travelling to the rest of the world. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities.

The Modern dance style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns, which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style.

Our street jazz classes are non-syllabus based and pupils get the opportunity to learn routines to current music. This class will also improve on fitness and flexibility and gives pupils the opportunity to explore a range of styles within street jazz, such as commercial, disco, hip-hop, funk and many more.

Our funky feet classes combine musical theatre, street jazz and modern dance to provide fun and energetic class for those who do not want to stick to just one style of dance but instead try a combination.

Contemporary dance places a heavy emphasis on the connection between mind and body, with dancers being encouraged to explore their emotions through dances that push against traditional boundaries. This style of dance often involves a great deal of playing with balance, floorwork, fall and recovery, and improvisation.

In contemporary dance classes, students learn to use their bodies in a variety of ways, and they focus on breathing, posture, and emotional state to establish a mind-body connection.
